ECHA issues consultation on 15 new substances of very high concern

Interested parties have until the 15th October to respond the European Chemicals Agency’s proposals to identify 15 chemicals as substances of very high concern (SVHCs). Comments will be considered when the decision is made on whether each substance is to be included on the Candidate List for authorisation.

Of the substances proposed for inclusion, nine have been chosen for their carcinogenic, mutagenic and/or reprotoxic (CMR) properties. A further five have been selected for their persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT) properties, with the remaining substance considered as both CMR and PBT. A summary of the chemicals can be seen here in the ECHA press release.

Comments that focus on the hazardous properties that qualify the chemicals as SVHCs are invited from interested parties. Further information on uses, exposure, availability and alternative chemicals is also welcomed, although these will be considered in more depth in subsequent stages of the process, which include further consultations.
