REACH, the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, is the new European Chemicals Policy. It will introduce major changes to the way chemicals are managed throughout the EU Member States.

This Directive is set to drive major changes both in the global chemicals industry and in any industry that uses or processes chemicals. It will affect organisations at every point of a production chain, from chemical manufacturers to chemical distributors to companies assembling products from component parts.

The REACH Legislation was formally published at the end of 2006 and entered into force on 1st June 2007. All chemicals manufactured or imported into Europe over one tonne per annum will need to be registered by manufacturers and/or importers. If a substance is not registered it will be unlawful to manufacture or import it into the European Union.
